Recently, my wife and I stopped to purchase gas for our vehicle. Close to the fueling stations was a Walmart Neighborhood Market. My wife wanted to go to the Walmart and pick up a few things. I also wanted to go into the store while she was shopping. I spotted a lady in the grocery aisle and I walked up to her. I could see she had very little in her grocery basket. She had some bottled water and she was looking at some cream cheese in one of the aisles. I approached her by saying, "Boy, these food prices are high." She immediately responded by telling me the price that eggs had now risen to. As mentioned in my previous lesson, The Christmas Angel, I had some of my handmade angels with me, so I pulled them out and offered her an angel. She immediately responded by giving glory to God. Thanking God that He had sent an angel to remind her of His faithfulness to her and her daughter.

She then began to pour out her heart to me. She was a Spanish speaking lady possibly from Mexico, who was a single mom with a 14 year old daughter. She had no work and was struggling to pay her basic necessities. I probed her a little bit about what her basic needs were and then before our conversation ended I pulled out my billfold and gave her a quite large amount of money. She wanted to give me a hug, but more than that to praise the God of heaven that had just met her need of daily necessities for her and her daughter. She was not a homeless person with a sign on the street, she was a hard working woman that fell on hard times and was left to support her and her daughter. And then God showed up to meet her needs. I can't tell you the thankfulness of her heart and the expression on her face as God was meeting her needs. There is a scripture in Matthew chapter 5 and verse 16 that states,
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

This story that I'm telling you today is not about me or even this woman and her daughter, but it's about the glory that our heavenly Father will receive when we walk in the good works that He has ordained that we walk in each and every day. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has ordained that we should walk in (Ephesians 2:10).

The reason that I am sharing this story today is because God said that we were to provoke one another to show love and to show good works (Hebrews 10:24).

In Matthew chapter 25, Jesus said I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink (Matthew 25:35). And by doing this to the least of one of my children, you in reality did it unto Me (Matthew 25:40).

So the title today, "I saw Jesus at Walmart", is expressing the truth that in reaching out to meet this woman and her daughter's need, that in reality I was doing this to Jesus.
"God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." (Hebrews 6:10 NIV)
Questions
  1. Read Matthew 25:31-46.
"31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." ‑ Matthew 25:31-46
